I've downloaded the Ryder Scott's Reservoir Solutions (RSS) freeware, a package (which utilizes .xlam and .xla add-in files within Excel), and when i open Excel and uploads the package, there is a window "Visual Basic for Applications" that says "Run-time error : '438': Object doesn't support this property or method".

I guess the .xlam (or RSS) was prepared for old versions of Excel...and/or not Office...

Anything i could do?

    Dear @Sebastian Leoni,

Based on the information provided, it appears that the Ryder Scott Reservoir Solutions (RSS) Excel add-in may have been developed for an older version of Microsoft Excel and may not be fully compatible with your current Office installation. Object doesn't support this property or method (Error 438)

To better understand your scenario and provide the most accurate assistance, could you please share a few details:

    • What version of Excel or Office 365 are you currently using?
    • Does the error pop-up as soon as you open the file, or only when you click a macro button inside the sheet?
    • Is the file using VBA macros or ActiveX controls? And if possible, a screenshot of the error message would be very helpful.

While I wait for the requested details, you may try the following troubleshooting steps:

    1. Repair VBA References (if the VBA Editor opens)

    • Open Excel and press Option + F11 (or Fn + Option + F11 on some Mac keyboards) to launch the Visual Basic Editor.
    • Select Tools > References.
    • Check whether any references are marked as MISSING.
    • If you see missing references, uncheck them, click OK, then reopen the References window and re-enable any appropriate Excel or Office libraries.
    • Restart Excel and test the RSS add-in again.

    2.Enable Macro Content

    • In Excel, go to Excel > Preferences > Security & Privacy.
    • Ensure that macros are allowed for trusted files as appropriate for your environment.
    • If macOS blocks the file because it was downloaded from the internet, locate the file in Finder, right-click it, select Get Info, and look for an Unblock or similar security prompt if available.

    3.Verify Add-in Compatibility

    • Since the RSS package was developed for older versions of Excel, the error may be related to compatibility with newer Microsoft 365 for Mac builds.
    • If available, check whether Ryder Scott provides an updated version of the add-in that supports current Microsoft 365 and macOS environments.

Please feel free to reply below if you have any update or further concern.

Thank you for your cooperation. I look forward to your response!
