Unable to install third-party add-in in Excel – Permission Error

Hello,

I am a Microsoft 365 personal subscriber and I am experiencing an issue when trying to install the "Claude by Anthropic for Excel" add-in from the official Office Store.

When I attempt to install it, I receive the following error:

"You don't have permission to use this add-in. Contact your system administrator to request access."

I have already checked the following:

  • Trust Center settings in Excel: all add-in options are enabled and nothing is blocked
  • My Microsoft account privacy settings: Claude does not appear under "App access" in my account
  • I tried installing from Insert → Get Add-ins directly in Excel, and I receive "Error loading add-ins – One or more add-ins failed to load"

This is a personal Microsoft 365 account, not a business or organization account, so there is no system administrator to contact.

Could you please help me enable third-party add-in access for my account?

Thank you very much for your help.

Microsoft, Are you listening, or -more importantly- take action?

Same problem here. I've noticed that using Claude's Add-in for Excel Online works fine, but with the native app, this problem persists. Hope Microsoft fixes it soon.

I have exactly the same problem since yesterday (29 May 2026).

I found a work around by using a different account, but still using the origina;l subscription.

It looks like it's a Microsoft problem. I hope it will be solved soon!

    Hi,
This is super strange, although MS office is your Personal subscription but may I know if a Work or school account is added in Settings > Accounts > Access Work or school?

Additionally, Please open Credential Manager > Windows /Web credentials, do you see any Work account credential listed?

I’m eager to hear back and work together to find a solution.
