Hello everyone,
I have an ASUS TUF Dash F15 (FX517ZR) that has been experiencing random, complete system freezes for approximately the past month.
The screen freezes on the last displayed image, and the mouse and keyboard become completely unresponsive. There is no blue screen, black screen, or automatic restart. I have to force a shutdown by holding the power button.
The freezes happen both under heavy workloads, such as 3D modeling and AutoCAD, and when the laptop is completely idle. Most concerningly, it has also frozen in Safe Mode with no applications open.
Troubleshooting already performed:
- Uninstalled and reinstalled drivers.
- Tested the RAM and SSD, with no errors detected.
- Repaired Windows system files.
- Tested in Safe Mode, but the issue persists.
In early September 2026, I also had basic maintenance performed, including internal cleaning and thermal paste replacement.
I normally use ASUS Armoury Crate with Windows mode selected, and I have configured the power settings through Windows as well. I have read discussions suggesting that Armoury Crate may cause stability issues on some ASUS laptops, so I wonder whether it could be related.
My questions:
- Could Armoury Crate or its interaction with Windows power management cause these freezes?
- What diagnostic steps would help determine whether the cause is related to Windows, drivers, BIOS, or hardware?
- Are there any known issues or recommended BIOS, chipset, or graphics driver updates for this model?
I would appreciate any suggestions to identify the root cause before considering reinstalling Windows or taking the laptop in for further service.
Thank you!
