    Hi!

The error code 0x800CCC0E indicates that Outlook is unable to connect to the email server.

Which email provider are you using when this error occurs—Gmail, Yahoo, or another provider?

Often, removing and re-adding the account can help. In some cases, you may need to clear the credentials saved in the Credential Manager.

Error 0x800CCC0E means Classic Outlook cannot complete its connection to the mail server, so first check Outlook’s connection status and account configuration; use the Gmail/Yahoo credential reset only if the account and Outlook edition match that documented issue.

    1. Check the connection and account settings

    1. Look at the status bar at the bottom of Outlook.
      • If it says Working Offline, open Send/Receive and select Work Offline once to return online.
      • If it says Disconnected or Trying to connect, verify that websites open normally in a browser.
    2. Check Outbox for a stuck message, especially one with a large attachment. Remove the attachment or delete the stuck message.
    3. If the email password was changed recently, Outlook may need updated credentials.
    4. For an ISP, POP, or IMAP account, open: File → Account Settings → Account Settings → Email → select the account → Change/Server Settings. Compare the incoming server, outgoing SMTP server, port numbers, and SSL/TLS settings with the current settings supplied by the email provider. Do not guess the ports or encryption type.^1^

Microsoft lists 0x800CCC0E among the errors covered by its Classic Outlook send/receive troubleshooting procedures.

    2. If this is Gmail or Yahoo in Outlook for Microsoft 365

First confirm that the affected account is Gmail or Yahoo and that the installed product is Outlook for Microsoft 365. The following known-issue procedure is documented specifically for that edition.

Microsoft fixed a Gmail/Yahoo synchronization issue through a service change on March 20, 2026. However, the same symptoms can remain after a password change until the OAuth sign-in token expires—usually within one hour.^2^

To force Outlook to request fresh credentials:

    1. Close Outlook.
    2. Search Windows for Credential Manager and open it.
    3. Select Windows Credentials.
    4. Under Generic Credentials, expand entries beginning with: MicrosoftOffice16_Data:OAUTH2
    5. Identify entries whose full names contain:
      • tp_google_imap_Oauth2, or
      • tp_yahoo_imap_Oauth2
    6. Remove all matching entries for the affected account. There may be two or four.
    7. Restart Outlook and sign in when prompted.
    8. If synchronization does not start, restart Outlook once more.

This removes cached authentication credentials, not the email account or its messages.^2^

    3. If Gmail/Yahoo still fails

The registry fallback also applies only to the affected Gmail/Yahoo account in Outlook for Microsoft 365.

Back up the registry or create a Windows restore point first; deleting the wrong registry key can damage other Outlook identities.

    1. Close Outlook.
    2. Right-click Start → Run, enter regedit, and select OK.
    3. Navigate to:
    Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\Identity\Identities

    1. Inspect each subkey until its values identify the affected Gmail or Yahoo address.
    2. Delete only that account’s identity subkey.
    3. Restart Outlook and sign in again.^2^

    4. General fallback for other providers or Outlook editions

    1. Open File → Account Settings → Account Settings → Email.
    2. Select the affected account and choose Repair, then restart Outlook.^1^
    3. If Repair does not resolve it, run Microsoft’s Classic Outlook troubleshooter. These troubleshooters apply to Classic Outlook, not new Outlook for Windows.^3^
    4. If the error remains, contact the email provider and supply:
      • The complete Send/Receive error text
      • Whether the account is Gmail, Yahoo, Microsoft, ISP, or another provider
      • Whether it uses IMAP or POP
      • The Outlook edition shown under File → Office Account

Do not post the full email address publicly.
