Missing Copilot Chat History After Upgrade

After upgrading to the new Copilot experience, most of my chat history disappeared. Previously, I had multiple conversations saved, but they are no longer visible in either the Copilot app or the web version. I have already signed out and back in, verified my account, and exported my activity history. The exported file did not contain my previous conversations. I would appreciate assistance in determining whether my chat history can be recovered and whether there is a synchronization or migration issue affecting my account.

Hello Microsoft Support,After upgrading to the new Copilot app, I lost access to my entire Copilot chat history.Prior to the upgrade, I had a significant number of conversations stored in Copilot. Following the upgrade, my previous chats no longer appear in the chat history.I am signed in with the same Microsoft account that I used before the upgrade. I have already tried:Signing out and back inRestarting the Copilot appAccessing Copilot through the web browserChecking that I am using the correct Microsoft accountThe chat history is still missing. tłumacz According to Microsoft's documentation, chats and content should automatically move to the updated Copilot experience. I need assistance recovering my missing conversations and confirming whether my chat history still exists on Microsoft's servers. Please investigate my account and advise:Whether my chat history can be restored.Whether there are any migration or synchronization issues affecting my account.Whether the chat data is still available and recoverable. If there is a way to manually trigger a resync of my Copilot content. These conversations contain important information, and I would appreciate urgent assistance.Thank you

Your eligible chat history may still be migrating, so allow time for the move to complete, use any in-app link to existing chats, and report the problem through Copilot if the history remains absent across both the app and web.

    What to do now

Since you have already reauthenticated, verified the account, checked both clients, and exported your activity, do not repeat those checks.

    1. Open the updated Copilot app and inspect any migration notice.
      • Look for a message such as “coming soon” or a link to access existing chats.
      • Use that link if present; Microsoft states that content can remain available through it while migration is still underway.
    2. Fully close and reopen the Windows Copilot app.
      • Do not only minimize it.
      • Refresh the Copilot web page separately.
      • Check again later because migration and cross-device synchronization can complete at different times depending on the amount and type of content being moved.^1^
    3. If the history remains missing, submit an account-specific migration report:
      • In Copilot, select … in the upper-right corner.
      • Select Send feedback.
      • Select Report a problem.
      • Include:
        • The approximate date and time the history disappeared.
        • That it happened immediately after moving to the updated experience.
        • Windows version and Copilot app version.
        • Confirmation that the same conversations are missing from both app and web.
        • Confirmation that the activity export did not include them.
        • Screenshots of the empty or incomplete history.
        • Approximate number and dates of missing conversations.

This is the documented escalation path for content that remains unavailable after migration troubleshooting.^1^

    Can the conversations be recovered?

Microsoft documents that chats, images, and most other eligible content should migrate automatically, but it does not document a manual force synchronization or user-facing restoration control.^2^ Because the export also lacks the conversations, recovery cannot be performed from that file; Microsoft must investigate whether the content is still pending migration or is otherwise recoverable.

Recovery is subject to these exceptions:

    • Personal and work/school histories remain separate. Content does not migrate between a personal Microsoft account and a Microsoft Entra work or school account.
    • Content created through retired features can be treated differently. In particular, Group Chat threads and their content were not carried forward after August 18, 2026; Podcasts and Deep Research were also retired.
    • If the missing “conversations” were stored as Projects, look under Notebooks in the left navigation because Projects was renamed.
    • Temporary chats do not appear in chat history and cannot later be accessed as ordinary conversations.^3^

Remain signed in to the updated Copilot app before December 31, 2026. Microsoft warns that eligible content that has not migrated will be permanently deleted after that date.^1^
