We are designing a solution for an organisation in Saudi Arabia that must keep customer data inside the Kingdom.

  1. Is Saudi Arabia currently available as a Microsoft 365 data residency geography (Advanced Data Residency or Multi-Geo) for Exchange Online, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint and OneDrive? The current list of Local Region Geographies includes the UAE and Qatar, but not Saudi Arabia.
  2. With the Saudi Arabia East datacenter region launching in November 2026, will Microsoft 365 data residency be offered for Saudi Arabia, and from when?
  3. If so, can an existing tenant move its data to the Saudi geography, and which licence is required?

    Dear @bhavya p ,

Good day! Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum!

First of all, I would like to clarify that this is a community forum where users help one another. No one here, including myself, has access to your Microsoft 365 tenant, account details, billing information, Micrsoft product or authentication settings.

Based on your description, I have researched this matter using official Microsoft documentation. Please consider the following points:

1/ Not yet. Saudi Arabia is not currently a "Local Region Geography" or "Satellite Geography" for Microsoft 365 under the Advanced Data Residency (ADR) or Multi-Geo offerings. Consequently, there is no commitment to store data within Saudi Arabian territory for Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, or OneDrive.

2/ The fact that the "Saudi Arabia East" region is scheduled to become operational in November 2026 does not imply that Microsoft 365 data residency will be available there at that same time. Current announcements primarily concern Azure and "eligible services/workloads"; Microsoft has not yet announced a date for Microsoft 365 availability.

3/ Therefore, existing subscribers cannot currently request the migration of their Microsoft 365 data to Saudi Arabia. Should Microsoft add this geography in the future, the mechanism would likely be through ADR or Multi-Geo, both of which carry specific licensing requirements.

Regarding this matter, I suggest that you contact Microsoft through Unified Support. Microsoft Unified Support is Microsoft’s enterprise-wide support program that provides unlimited technical support, expert guidance, and proactive services across the entire Microsoft product ecosystem - including Azure, Microsoft 365, Dynamics 365, Windows, and security tools.

Any updates you’re able to share would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your time and attention! I look forward to hearing from you.
