Hello everyone,

I desperately need help recovering my personal files from a BitLocker-encrypted SSD.

I was using the same Microsoft account on two different devices. Recently, my Windows installation became corrupted and stopped starting properly. While trying to recover my files using Ubuntu, I discovered that my SSD is now asking for a BitLocker recovery key or passphrase.

The problem is that when I sign in to my Microsoft account, I can only see one of my two devices. My old device, which contains the SSD with all my important personal files, is no longer showing in my account.

I have tried checking my Microsoft account, but I cannot find the recovery key for the old device.

I need help with the following questions:

  1. Is there any way to recover the BitLocker recovery key through my Microsoft account?
  2. Why has my old device disappeared from my Microsoft account?
  3. Is it possible that the recovery key is still stored somewhere in Microsoft’s system?
  4. Can Microsoft Support help locate the recovery key using my old device information or serial number?
  5. Is there any safe way to unlock the SSD and recover my files without formatting or losing data?

I want to make it clear that recovering my personal files is my highest priority. I do not want to format, reset, or erase the SSD.

If anyone has experienced a similar issue or knows a possible solution, please guide me step by step.

I would be extremely grateful for any help or suggestions.

Thank you!

There is no workaround I'm afraid the encryption is too strong.

Without the correct recovery key there is no access to the encrypted drive.

If your account does not show the correct device that had the SSD installed there is no other way to gain access.

Have you tried the recovery key you have?
