Battery of laptop suddenly not charging

I have a Lenovo Ideapad Slim 5 of 2025 vintage. It has worked perfectly until now.

The battery status shows 0 charge and indicates charging is happening, however the charge status does not change after many hours of apparent charging. Consequently it only works when plugged in.

The battery health and charging capacity are both good according to the Lenovo app.

According to the System menu the battery was at 70% and an hour later dropped to 0% where it has remained for the past 24 hours.

Is there a ready fix for this problem?

Open Lenovo Vantage → Device/My Device Settings → Battery or Power, disable Conservation Mode, and remove any custom Battery Charge Threshold, then restart the laptop and check whether the percentage rises.^1^

A charge threshold normally stops charging near a configured percentage rather than at 0%, but it is the quickest Lenovo-specific setting to rule out. Since Vantage already reports good battery health and capacity, do not repeat its health test.

Test the charger and charging hardware

    1. Connect the original Lenovo charger and cable directly to the laptop’s charging port and a wall outlet.
      • Do not use a dock, hub, extension, or power strip during this test.
      • If charging through USB-C, ensure it is the laptop’s charging-capable port.
      • Inspect the connector and port for debris or looseness.
An incompatible or underpowered USB-C charger can show as connected without providing enough power to charge the battery.^2^
    2. Shut the laptop down completely and leave it connected for 30–60 minutes. Then start it and check the charge level.

Charging is managed by the laptop hardware and normally continues while Windows is shut down. If it remains at 0% with the correct charger while powered off, the likely next step is hardware service rather than further Windows repair; charging can be stopped by a battery, charging-circuit, or thermal fault.^3^

If possible, test another known-good Lenovo-compatible adapter with the required wattage. Do not substitute an ordinary phone USB-C charger.

If it charges while off but Windows still reports 0%

    Refresh the Windows battery devices:

    1. Right-click Start → Device Manager.
    2. Expand Batteries.
    3. Right-click each entry, select Disable device, wait a few seconds, and select Enable device.
    4. Select Start → Power → Restart—use Restart, not Shut down.
    5. Recheck the battery percentage.

This procedure addresses a stuck Windows battery-status interface.^4^

If Lenovo Vantage’s charging controls are missing or malfunctioning, install the ACPI/power-management driver for the exact IdeaPad Slim 5 machine type from Lenovo Support, then restart.^5^

    Capture evidence before service

Open Terminal or Command Prompt as administrator and run:

    powercfg /batteryreport

Open the HTML file at the location shown and review:

    • Installed batteries
    • Recent usage
    • Battery usage
    • Design capacity
    • Full charge capacity

The report records charge history and recent power-state changes.^6^

If powered-off charging fails with a correct, known-good adapter, check the laptop’s Lenovo warranty status and contact Lenovo support. If it is out of warranty, use Lenovo paid service or a qualified repair technician. The battery, internal battery connection, USB-C/DC input circuitry, or charging controller may require physical diagnosis. Do not open the laptop if doing so could affect warranty coverage.
