A family of Microsoft spreadsheet software with tools for analyzing, charting, and communicating data.
The error may be caused by the way the source list is being referenced rather than by the header cell itself.
If the source values are stored in an Excel table, avoid entering a structured reference such as =Table1[Status] directly in the Data Validation Source box. Instead:
- Go to Formulas > Name Manager > New.
- Create a name such as
StatusList. - In Refers to, select the cells containing the list items, excluding the source header.
- Select the destination header cell, then go to Data > Data Validation.
- Choose List and enter
=StatusListin the Source box.
If “header” means the actual header row of an Excel table, please note that its arrow is normally used for filtering. If you want users to select a value for data entry, it may be better to place the dropdown in the first data row or in a separate cell above the table.
If the error continues, could you share the exact formula currently entered in the Source box and confirm whether the source list is on the same worksheet? Thank you so much for your understanding.
