An application or feature powered by Windows Copilot to assist users with tasks and productivity
Install the current Microsoft Copilot for Windows app from its documented Store listing rather than updating the unsupported legacy package: open https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9NHT9RB2F4HD, select Install, then launch Copilot and sign in with your personal or work/school Microsoft account.^1^
If that listing still reports an installation problem
- Open Microsoft Store.
- Select Library → Get updates.
- Allow the Store itself and all pending components to update.
- Close Microsoft Store, reopen it, and retry the Copilot listing.
Microsoft’s Windows 11 Store guidance specifically recommends updating Microsoft Store through Library → Get updates, followed by repairing/resetting affected apps when necessary.^2^
If an old Copilot package remains installed:
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Search for Copilot.
- Select … → Uninstall for the obsolete version.
- Restart Windows.
- Retry the current Copilot listing above.
Copilot can be removed from that Windows 11 location and reinstalled from its current Store listing.^1^
If you mean the Microsoft 365 Copilot app
Microsoft Copilot and Microsoft 365 Copilot are separate app listings. If you specifically want the Microsoft 365 app—which provides Microsoft 365 entry points in addition to Chat—use its official Store listing:
https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9WZDNCRD29V9
Select Install, sign in with your usual Microsoft account, and select Chat. This alternate listing was also recommended in a closely matching Microsoft Q&A case involving the “old version no longer supported” message.^3^
If the Store remains unable to install it, Microsoft provides a stand-alone Microsoft 365 Copilot installer that does not require Microsoft Store:
https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2325486
Download and run the installer, then open Microsoft 365 Copilot from Start. This fallback applies only to the Microsoft 365 Copilot app, not the standalone Microsoft Copilot app.^4^
If every Store app fails to install
That points to a broader Store issue rather than Copilot alone. Test one free app from the Store:
- If it also fails, repair or reset Microsoft Store from its Windows app settings, then reopen Store → Library → Get updates.
- On a managed work or school PC, contact the administrator because Store access or its catalog endpoints may be restricted.
- Continue using Copilot in the browser while the local installation is repaired; the working browser version indicates that Copilot itself remains accessible.
