Teams Android App - Room Resources Visible in Desktop Client but Not in Team Mobile Location

Content:

Hello Team,

We have configured meeting room mailboxes in Exchange Online, and the room resources are working as expected.

Observed behavior:

  • In the Microsoft Teams desktop application, users can create a meeting and successfully search/select room resources under the Location field.
  • The same room resources are also visible in Outlook/Desktop.
  • However, in the Microsoft Teams Android application, users are unable to find or select the room resources when scheduling a meeting.

Environment:

  • Microsoft 365
  • Exchange Online Room Mailboxes
  • Microsoft Teams Desktop: Working
  • Microsoft Teams Android: Room resources not visible/searchable

Validation performed:

  • Confirmed room mailboxes exist and are bookable.
  • Verified room mailboxes are not hidden from the GAL.
  • Confirmed room resources appear in Teams Desktop and Outlook.
  • Tested with multiple users and Android devices.
  • Teams application is updated to the latest version.

Question:

  1. Is room resource discovery/location picker supported in the Microsoft Teams Android application?
  2. Are there any known limitations or feature differences between Teams Desktop and Teams Android for meeting room selection?
  3. Is additional configuration required for room resources to appear in the Teams Android app?

Any official Microsoft documentation regarding room resource support in Teams Mobile/Android would be appreciated.

Thank you.

    Dear @Sridhar D

Thank you for the detailed validation. Since the rooms are bookable in Teams desktop and Outlook, I would first investigate the Teams Android scheduling experience, rather than recreate the room mailboxes.

Microsoft’s public Teams mobile scheduling guidance does not explicitly confirm desktop-equivalent room discovery in the Location field. I therefore cannot reliably classify this as either a universal Android limitation or a configuration fault based on the documentation alone. I also have not found a documented Android-specific Exchange setting that enables this picker. Teams scheduling guidance.

For an immediate mobile workaround, I recommend Outlook for Android:

    1. Create a calendar event using the same Microsoft 365 account.
    2. Search for the room in Location and select the actual room resource.
    3. Enable the Teams meeting option, send the invitation, and verify that the room accepts it.
    4. Microsoft explicitly documents conference-room search and availability in Outlook for Android. Simply typing a room name as location text does not confirm a reservation. Outlook mobile room-selection guidance.

To narrow this down, could you confirm:

Is the Location field missing, or present but returning no room results?

Can the same users find these rooms in Outlook for Android?

Has room selection ever worked in Teams Android, and what exact Teams build is installed?

If Outlook Android works but Teams Android consistently fails, I recommend opening a case through Microsoft 365 admin center > Help & support. Include those comparison results, app/Android versions, and a redacted screenshot, and ask support to confirm room-picker availability for your tenant and build.

Microsoft does not currently document a room-resource browser or Places/Room Finder workflow in the Teams mobile app for Android, so use Outlook mobile’s Browse conference rooms workflow or add the room mailbox as a required attendee.

    What the documentation establishes

    • Microsoft’s Teams calendar article documents choosing rooms and using Browse with Places Finder, but the article explicitly describes the Teams calendar experience “for desktop”; it does not document that room-finding interface for Teams Android. ^1^
    • Microsoft documents adding a room in Teams by entering the room name or address under Add required attendees. However, that article does not explicitly promise the same searchable location picker in the Android mobile scheduler. ^2^
    • Outlook for Android and iOS explicitly supports searching for and booking conference rooms from New Event → Browse conference rooms. ^3^

Therefore, the absence of rooms from the Teams Android Location field should be treated as a mobile-client feature difference or documentation gap—not evidence that the Exchange room mailboxes are misconfigured.

    Supported workarounds

    1. Book through Outlook mobile

    1. Open Outlook on Android.
    2. Open Calendar and create a New Event.
    3. Select Browse conference rooms.
    4. Choose the required room and send the invitation.

This is the clearest documented mobile room-discovery workflow. ^3^

    2. Add the room as an attendee in Teams Android

When creating the meeting in Teams Android:

    1. Open Calendar and create a meeting.
    2. Under Add required attendees, enter the room’s display name or complete SMTP address, such as [Email].
    3. Select the room if it resolves, then send the meeting.
    4. Confirm that the room mailbox accepts the request.

Microsoft documents attendee-based room booking in Teams, although it does not identify the documented steps as an Android-specific room-picker experience. ^2^

    3. If Teams Panels are deployed

A user can scan the panel’s QR code with the Android phone and choose Schedule a new meeting or Reserve for existing meeting. In the new-meeting flow, Teams automatically adds that panel’s room to the invitation. This requires a supported Teams Panel and applicable device licensing; it is not a general room-browser replacement. ^4^

No additional room-mailbox change is indicated

    Because the same rooms:

    • resolve and can be booked in Teams desktop,
    • appear in Outlook,
    • are not hidden from the GAL, and
    • fail consistently only in Teams Android across users and devices,

recreating the mailboxes or changing GAL visibility is not supported by the symptoms. Room booking itself relies on Exchange resource mailboxes, while Places-based discovery additionally depends on the Places hierarchy. ^5^ Your successful desktop and Outlook tests already demonstrate that the core room resources are operational.

Also distinguish Teams for Android on a user’s phone from Teams Rooms on Android, which is conference-room console software. The Teams Rooms feature-comparison documentation concerns dedicated room devices and notes that Windows and Android device features can differ; it does not establish support for a room picker in the phone app. ^6^

If adding the room by exact SMTP address also fails in Teams Android, collect the Teams Android version, affected tenant/user details, UTC timestamp, and a screen recording, then open a Microsoft 365 support request. That would allow Microsoft to determine whether the tenant is encountering an undocumented client defect or a staged feature difference.
