I originally had Outlook free version on my desktop. I now have a Microsoft 365 family subscription. When I open Outlook, it opens to the free version. How do I get it to recognize my paid subscription so that I maintain my email address, contacts & Outlook calendar

    Hi,

You can try launching Classic Outlook; it should recognize the signature. You are likely using the "New Outlook" version from the Microsoft Store.

To have Outlook use the paid Microsoft 365 Family subscription, sign in to Outlook and Microsoft 365 with the same Microsoft account that owns the subscription.

    1. Check that the Microsoft 365 Family subscription is active.
      • Go to Services & subscriptions.
      • Sign in with the Microsoft account associated with the subscription.
      • The Microsoft 365 subscription should appear at the top of the page.
    2. In Outlook or another Office app, sign in with that same Microsoft account.
      • Open the app.
      • Select the profile icon and add or switch to the subscription account.
      • Office recognizes and activates the subscription, and only one signed-in account controls the license at a time.
    3. If the desktop apps are not installed yet, install them from the subscription account.
      • From the subscription page, use the install option for Microsoft 365.
      • Microsoft 365 Family includes the desktop apps for PC and Mac.
    4. If subscription notices still appear after purchase or renewal, confirm the subscription actually started.
      • If the subscription came from a retail box or card, the product key may still need to be redeemed before the subscription becomes active.
      • If the expiration date looks wrong, use Microsoft Support contact options.
    5. Email address, contacts, and calendar can be kept.
      • The subscription changes licensing and app access; it does not require changing the existing email address.
      • Outlook for Mac support states Outlook can be used with personal accounts such as Outlook.com, Gmail, iCloud, Yahoo, and IMAP accounts, and Microsoft 365 adds benefits such as an ad-free experience, more storage, and advanced email security.

If Outlook still behaves like the free version after signing in with the subscription account, use the web apps temporarily at Office.com and contact support.
