A Microsoft file hosting and synchronization service.
If only Share or Open appears, the file is typically not owned by the account and cannot be deleted directly.
What to do:
- Check whether the file is in Shared rather than in My files.
- If it is a file shared by someone else, it cannot be deleted from OneDrive because only the owner can remove it.
- On the OneDrive website, go to Shared.
- Select the file or folder and choose Hide from Shared or Remove from shared list if that option appears.
Important details:
- Files that are not owned by the account cannot be deleted.
- If the Delete option is missing on the web, permission to delete that file or folder may not be available.
- If the file is actually owned by the account, it can be deleted from My files or from the OneDrive folder in File Explorer by selecting it and pressing Delete.
- If a shared item is deleted and it is owned by the account, it is deleted for everyone.
If the file looks suspicious or malicious, the recommended action is to delete it when possible. On mobile, for blocked malicious files, the available action is delete.
