Is it possible to attach an Outlook email to a calendar event in new Outlook like you could in old Outlook? I can't figure it out.

I managed to drag the email into the event and haven't had any opportunities to try the other suggestions yet. I liked the ability to attach the email in old Outlook while setting up a meeting or appointment. Another issue I'm having is that it's easy to overlook adding the invitees in new Outlook now that meetings and assignments are merged into "Event." Old Outlook meeting invites wouldn't close without having an email address included, but Events do. I've caught myself thinking I'd scheduled a meeting, but forgot to fill the "To" field. Am I missing something?

Thank you for the update.

You can either drag the email into the event for a quicker approach or use the standard method, whichever you prefer.

Regarding attendees, what you're seeing is expected in New Outlook. Meetings and appointments now use the same Event form, so an event can be saved without attendees as a personal appointment. After you select Invite attendees and add recipients, the event becomes a meeting invitation.

Currently, New Outlook doesn't provide a setting that requires attendees for every new event or displays a warning when an event is saved without them.

If you would like to see this functionality added, I recommend submitting feedback through the Outlook (new) · Community portal. As a forum user, I hope you understand that I don’t have the ability to modify or escalate product issues directly. If you share your feedback link here, I will be happy to upvote it to help increase its visibility.

I understand this change can be easy to overlook when moving from Classic Outlook. For now, checking that the button shows Send before closing the event is the simplest way to confirm that attendees have been added.

Yes. In new Outlook, an email can be attached to a calendar event by drag and drop.

Steps:

Create a new email message or calendar event, or open an existing draft.
Find the email to attach.
Drag the email directly into the message or event being composed.
When Drop messages here appears, drop the email.

If that does not work in Outlook on the web, the documented method is:

Create or open the calendar event.
Select Open in new window.
Arrange the message list and the event window side by side.
Drag the email from the message list into the event.

Important limitation: attaching calendar information to an email is not supported in new Outlook, but attaching an email to a calendar event is supported.

If the drag-and-drop action still fails, the issue is likely specific to the Outlook client or environment rather than a removed feature.

Good day Nina,

Certainly, you can attach an Outlook email to a calendar event in New Outlook by first saving the email as an .eml file and then attaching that file to the event. Here’s how:

Open Mail in New Outlook.

Select the email you want to include.

Right click and select > Save as > Save as EML.

Save the email to your computer. It will be saved as an .eml file.

Open Calendar and create a new event, or open an existing event that you can edit.

Select Attach file and browse to the saved .eml file.

Attach the file, then select Save or Send.

Anyone who receives the event can download and open the attached .eml file in Outlook.

If you prefer the original experience of attaching an email directly as an Outlook item, you will need to use Classic Outlook. You can switch back by turning off the New Outlook toggle, or download and install Classic Outlook if it's available to you.

Note: If you're unable to download or use Classic Outlook, your organization may have restrictions in place that prevent access to it.

In New Outlook, saving the message as an .eml file and attaching it to the event is the supported workaround.
