The built-in scanning app (Fax and Scan) in Windows has very basic scanning options and it can only scan one page at a time to a file.

The best option is to go to the support page for your scanner on the manufacturers website to see if they provide any scanning software for your scanner.

If not, open the Store app in Windows and search for 'multi-page scan', that search will bring up many free apps that can be used to scan multi-page documents.

To scan a document in Windows 11 and then email it, first scan the document to a file, then attach that file to an email.

    1. Turn on the scanner and make sure it is connected to the Windows 11 device.
    2. On the Windows device, right-click the Start menu and select Search.
    3. In the Type here to search box, type: Windows Scan.
    4. In the search results under Apps, select Scan.
      • If the Scan app does not appear, install the Windows Scan app from Microsoft Store using this link: Windows Scan.
    5. Place the document in the scanner:
      • For a flatbed scanner: place the document face down on the flatbed and close the cover.
      • For a document feeder: place the document in the feeder as described in the scanner’s documentation (face up or face down as required).
    6. In the Scan app:
      • In Scanner, select the correct scanner.
      • In Source, select Flatbed, Feeder, or Auto-configured (usually Auto-configured is fine, but it should match how the document was placed).
      • In File type, choose the desired format (for emailing, JPEG or PDF is commonly used; available options here are JPEG, PNG, TIFF, Bitmap).
      • Select Show more and under Save file to, choose the folder where the scan should be saved, then select Select Folder.
    7. Select Scan at the bottom of the app to scan the document.
    8. When the scan completes, it is automatically saved in the selected folder (if no folder was selected, it is saved by default to Pictures/Scans in the user folder).
    9. Open File Explorer, browse to the folder where the scan was saved, and confirm the scanned file is there.
    10. Open the email application or webmail, create a new email, and use the Attach or Insert file option to attach the scanned file from the folder where it was saved.
    11. Enter the recipient’s email address and subject, then send the email.
