    Hi Linda,

Thanks for sharing your concern. Here’s how to change your backup email in Microsoft:

    1. Sign in to your Microsoft account at account.microsoft.com.
    2. Go to Your info > Manage how you sign in to Microsoft.
    3. Under Account aliases, you’ll see your current backup email. Click Remove next to the compromised one.
    4. Click Add email and enter your new secure email address.
    5. Verify the new email by following the link Microsoft sends you.
    6. Make sure to set your preferred alias if needed.

Also, enable two-step verification for extra security under Security settings.

    I hope this helps.

    Warm regards,

    Rez

To change your compromised backup email account, follow these steps:

    1. Reset Your Password: Immediately change the password of the compromised email account to prevent further unauthorized access. Make sure to choose a strong and unique password.
    2. Enable Multifactor Authentication (MFA): If not already enabled, set up MFA for your email account. This adds an extra layer of security by requiring a second form of verification when logging in.
    3. Update Recovery Options: Go to your email account settings and update your recovery options. This includes changing your backup email address and phone number used for account recovery.
    4. Check Account Activity: Review recent activity on your email account for any unauthorized actions. Look for unfamiliar logins or changes to your settings.
    5. Secure Other Accounts: If your backup email was linked to other accounts, consider changing those passwords and enabling MFA there as well.
    6. Contact Support: If you are unable to regain control of your email account or if there are further issues, contact your email provider's support for assistance.

By following these steps, you can secure your email account and prevent future compromises.
