Overview
Microsoft Q&A Volunteer Moderators are trusted community leaders who help create a welcoming, constructive, and healthy experience across Microsoft Q&A.
They volunteer their time and community experience to support users, uphold community standards, protect the integrity of the community, and surface feedback that helps Microsoft better understand and improve the Q&A experience.
Volunteer Moderators may also be active contributors, Community Champions, Microsoft Most Valuable Professionals (MVPs), or members of other community programs.
What Volunteer Moderators do
Volunteer Moderators support the Q&A community across several areas:
- Community stewardship: Help maintain a welcoming, constructive, and inclusive environment where people can ask questions, share knowledge, and help one another.
- Moderation and safety: Help address spam, inappropriate content, privacy concerns, Code of Conduct violations, and other issues that may affect the health of the community.
- Community guidance: Help members navigate Q&A, encourage positive community practices, and provide guidance when appropriate.
- Community feedback: Surface trends, platform issues, community concerns, and opportunities for improvement to Microsoft Community teams.
- Knowledge sharing and content quality: Volunteer Moderators provide high-quality, trustworthy answers and help identify content quality concerns, including those related to AI-generated content.
Becoming a Volunteer Moderator
The Volunteer Moderator role is a select community leadership opportunity for trusted members who demonstrate strong judgment, positive community leadership, and a sustained commitment to Microsoft Q&A.
There is no application form or required reputation score. Volunteer Moderators are selected by Microsoft and may be nominated by existing moderators based on their overall participation and community impact.

- Knowledge and experience within the areas where they participate
- A willingness to guide and support other community members
- A demonstrated interest in the health and success of the broader community
Selection is based on the overall quality, consistency, and impact of a member's participation, rather than a specific reputation score or contribution threshold.
Pathways to the Volunteer Moderator role
Trusted community members may be considered for the Volunteer Moderator role through several pathways.
Active contributors can participate in the Microsoft Q&A Champions Program. These programs provide opportunities to demonstrate expertise, quality, consistency, and community impact and may lead to consideration for the Volunteer Moderator role.

The Volunteer Moderator experience
Volunteer Moderators become part of a global community of experienced community leaders and have access to resources and opportunities that support their role, including:
