Server 2022 settings app crashing

Hi,

I am getting an issue when leaving the settings app open on system, it crashes after around a minute.

This is on a Server 2022 machine (a domain controller) on a vmware host. If I leave another screen in settings open it doesn't crash.

Got to be C++ related (which vmware tools uses):

A shot in the dark but might check this one is Enabled.

Hi,

It won’t be enabled, but I did try another account so that rules this out.

I did setup a brand new one last night and the same thing happened when I made it a dc. Issue goes away once it’s demoted.

Think I’ll try server 2019. Still newer than my server 2016 ones.

The simplest / safest method would be to stand up a new one for replacement and move on.

I'd use dcdiag / repadmin tools to verify health correcting all errors found before starting any operations. Then stand up the new 2022, patch it fully, license it, join existing domain, add active directory domain services, promote it also making it a GC (recommended), transfer FSMO roles over (optional), transfer pdc emulator role (optional), use dcdiag / repadmin tools to again verify health, when all is good you can decommission / demote old one.

It seems to be promoting to dc that mucks the settings app up. If I demote the server it’s fine.

So not sure if the issue is ignorable, or if I should go for server 2019 instead.
