my curser is at thick white cross in excel and i cant input anything

when i try and update my worksheets in excel my curser changes to a thick white plus sign. a

All it allows me to do is make the columns wider or thinner for which the curser changes to a black cross

    On your keyboard, if there is a Scroll Lock key (ScrLk), try pressing that key or Fn + that key to test if that resolves the problem.

    If that was not the problem:

    Open Excel.

    Go to File - Options.

    Select Advanced on the left.

    In the 'Editing Options' section, enable this setting - 'Enable fill handle and cell drag and drop'

    Save that setting and restart Excel.
