My account has been restricted 11/05/26 for using my initials I have used for years. What can I do?

Edit the profile name through the link or Edit profile name control shown with the MSN restriction notice, replacing the initials with a recognizable name that the form accepts, then save the change and retry commenting.

If MSN does not provide an edit control

    Open your MSN commenting profile:

    1. Sign in to MSN with the restricted account.
    2. Open an article with comments.
    3. Select your profile picture or name in the comments area.
    4. Look for Edit profile, Edit name, or a similar profile setting.
    5. Enter a name rather than initials alone, save it, and retry commenting.

The message’s “undefined” wording appears incomplete, so it does not identify the exact naming rule that was triggered.

Only if MSN uses your Microsoft account display name

Check whether the name displayed in MSN matches the display name under your Microsoft account’s Your info page. If it does, select Edit name, make the change, complete the CAPTCHA, and select Save. Microsoft notes that display-name changes can take up to 24 hours to appear everywhere; that is propagation time, not a guaranteed MSN reinstatement time.^1^

    If commenting remains restricted

Submit the issue directly to MSN:

    1. Open any MSN page.
    2. Select Feedback at the bottom-right, or open it through the Settings cog on the MSN homepage.
    3. Include:
      • The restriction date.
      • The exact message: “Profile name does not meet guidelines.”
      • That you edited the MSN profile name as requested but commenting remains disabled.
      • A screenshot with personal information removed.
    4. Submit the report.

MSN states that feedback is forwarded to its editorial and product teams, but the form does not collect your email address and normally does not provide an individual reply.^2^ MSN commenting restrictions cannot be removed through Microsoft Learn Q&A; MSN’s moderation and feedback process handles them.^3^

Do not post your email address, account details, or other personal information in the feedback description or public forums.
