If the Copilot icon is missing in Outlook, the supported steps depend on the Outlook version:

    1. Classic Outlook for Windows
      • Open Home > New Email.
      • Look for the Copilot icon on the toolbar, then choose Draft with Copilot.
      • If the icon is still missing, check File > Options > Advanced.
      • Under Outlook panes, make sure Show Apps in Outlook is enabled.
      • If Copilot is still not available, use new Outlook or Outlook on the web as a workaround, or create a new Outlook profile.
      • If access to Copilot is unavailable in Outlook, check with the IT admin.
    2. Outlook for Mac
      • Copilot in Outlook is available only in the latest version of Outlook for Mac. Legacy Outlook is not supported.
      • Select New Message or New Mail.
      • Select the Copilot icon from the toolbar or compose toolbar.
      • Choose Draft with Copilot to generate a message, or Coaching by Copilot to review tone, clarity, and reader sentiment.
    3. Reply with Copilot in Outlook for Mac
      • Open a message from the message list.
      • Select the Copilot icon on the message toolbar.
      • Choose Summarize and reply to this email.

If the goal is to start using Copilot in Outlook, the main requirement shown here is using a supported Outlook version and locating the Copilot entry point in the message compose or message toolbar. In classic Outlook, also verify that Show Apps in Outlook is turned on.

    Hello Ke, Caihua,

Copilot does not normally need to be installed separately in Outlook. Its availability depends on the Microsoft account or work/school account signed in to Outlook, the associated Microsoft 365 subscription or Copilot license, and the Outlook version being used.

    Please first confirm:

    • Are you using classic Outlook, new Outlook, Outlook for Mac, or Outlook on the web?
    • Is the signed-in account a personal account or a work/school account?
    • Does that account have an eligible Microsoft 365 subscription or Copilot license?

In the meantime, update Outlook and try signing in to Outlook on the web with the same account. If Copilot appears there but not in the desktop application, the issue is more likely related to the Outlook version, privacy settings, or local profile.

You can also review Microsoft’s guidance for missing Copilot buttons in classic Outlook. Thank you so much for your understanding.
