Processes in Microsoft 365 for setting up Office apps, redeeming product keys, and activating licenses.
To find which account the Office license is associated with, use these steps:
- On a PC where Office is still activated, open any Office app such as Word or Excel.
- Go to File > Account.
- Under the product name, check Belongs to. That shows the Microsoft account associated with that Office license.
If Office is not available on any device, check Microsoft account subscriptions:
- Sign in to the Services & subscriptions page with each Microsoft account that might have been used.
- If the license is linked to that account, Office will appear there and can be reinstalled from that page.
Important details:
- The full Office product key cannot be viewed inside Office.
- For most Office and Microsoft 365 purchases, the Microsoft account replaces the product key for reinstalling and activating Office.
- If the license does not appear, it may be under a different Microsoft account.
- If this is a Microsoft 365 for business license and the required license is missing, the Microsoft 365 admin or IT staff must help assign or add the license.
