New phone, old verification accounts gone

I switched to a new iPhone and reinstalled Microsoft Authenticator, but my Roblox verification account and six-digit codes are no longer showing up. I need help restoring my previous Authenticator account or recovering my backed-up verification codes. I still have access to the Microsoft account I used in the app, but I no longer have my old phone.

Restore the Roblox entry from the existing iCloud Authenticator backup; if no such backup was created on the old iPhone, recover access through Roblox and enroll Authenticator again.

Restore the Authenticator backup on the new iPhone

Having access to the Microsoft account alone does not guarantee that the iPhone backup is available. Authenticator recovery on iOS also relies on the iCloud account and requires an iOS-to-iOS restore.

    1. On the new iPhone, sign in to the same Apple/iCloud account used on the old iPhone.
    2. In iPhone settings, enable:
      • iCloud Drive
      • iCloud Keychain
      • iCloud Backup
    3. Install or open Microsoft Authenticator.
    4. Check whether the backed-up accounts and one-time password entries appear.
    5. If an account displays Sign in to restore your account, tap Sign in and complete its additional verification.

Microsoft documents that eligible third-party entries—including 30-second verification codes—are restored when an Authenticator backup exists. Backups can only be restored to the same device type, so an iPhone backup can be restored to another iPhone, not Android. ^1^

If the accounts still do not appear, reinstalling Authenticator is a documented troubleshooting step, but it can only recover a backup that was actually created previously. ^2^

    If no Authenticator backup exists

The changing six-digit codes cannot be reconstructed from the Microsoft account alone. The Roblox entry contains a shared setup credential issued by Roblox; without its Authenticator backup or the old phone, Roblox must authorize a new setup.

    1. At the Roblox sign-in screen, choose another previously configured verification method, if offered.
    2. Use any saved Roblox recovery code, verified email, phone, or other recovery method associated with the account.
    3. After signing in:
      • Open Roblox account security settings.
      • Remove or replace the unavailable Authenticator method.
      • Configure Authenticator again and scan the new QR code.
      • Generate and securely store a new set of recovery codes.
    4. If no alternative verification method works, contact Roblox Customer Support. Microsoft cannot reset a third-party service’s two-step verification. Roblox directs users whose Authenticator method fails and who cannot use another configured method to its support process. ^3^

Roblox also documents that account recovery after losing the primary two-step verification method depends on the recovery methods configured in the Roblox account. ^4^

Do not remove and reinstall Authenticator repeatedly expecting it to create a missing backup; if the iCloud restore produces no Roblox entry, proceed with Roblox account recovery instead.
