For a Microsoft 365 Personal or Family account, first verify that Office Scripts’ preview requirements still apply to the signed-in account—Microsoft 365 Insider participation and connected experiences must be enabled—then test the script catalog in a browser session that permits third-party cookies.^1^
Your .osts file remaining under OneDrive → Documents → Office Scripts means it is still in the documented storage location; do not delete, rename, or move it while troubleshooting because those changes are reflected in Excel’s Script Gallery.^2^
1. Verify the Personal/Family preview prerequisites
Office Scripts remains a preview feature for Personal and Family subscriptions. Confirm all of the following:
- Excel for the web is signed in with the same Microsoft account that owns the script in OneDrive.
- That account has a qualifying Microsoft 365 Personal or Family subscription.
- The account/device participates in the Microsoft 365 Insider program.
- Microsoft 365 connected experiences are enabled.
- Internet access is available without a content blocker preventing Microsoft 365 services.
If Insider participation or connected experiences were disabled or changed, restore that requirement, close Excel’s browser tabs, and reopen the workbook. Microsoft directs Personal/Family users who continue experiencing preview issues to report them through Excel → Feedback.^1^
2. Isolate browser or account-session loading
Because the scripts were previously visible and now only samples load, test whether Excel can read the script catalog in a clean session:
- Open Excel for the web in a different supported browser—for example, use Edge or Chrome instead of Safari.
- Sign out of any additional personal, work, or school Microsoft accounts.
- Sign in only with the account that owns the
.osts file.
- Open the workbook and select Automate → View Scripts or All scripts.
- Check whether the personal script appears.
A similar Excel for the web case was diagnosed as likely browser/profile or account-session specific, with a different browser and the correct account recommended as the isolation test.^3^
3. Allow third-party cookies
Excel for the web requires third-party cookies to display and load Office Scripts correctly.^1^
In the browser’s Privacy/Cookies settings:
- Allow third-party or cross-site cookies for Microsoft 365, Excel, and OneDrive.
- If using a private window, check the setting inside that session because private mode may block them separately.
- Temporarily disable content-blocking extensions for the Microsoft 365 site, then reload Excel.
Microsoft lists blocked third-party cookies among the primary checks when Office Scripts are unavailable.^4^
4. If every browser still shows only samples
This pattern has also been reported when Excel for the web could not load the Office Scripts catalog service, so a service-side failure is possible but cannot be confirmed solely from the missing gallery.^5^
- Submit Excel for the web → Help → Feedback, including:
- “Only sample scripts are shown.”
- The approximate date the personal scripts disappeared.
- Confirmation that the
.osts files remain in OneDrive.
- Browsers tested and whether third-party cookies were allowed.
- If this is actually a work or school account, ask the Microsoft 365 administrator to review Service Health and verify that Office Scripts has not been disabled. Conditional Access authentication-context settings do not support Office Scripts in Excel for the web; if that condition exists, Excel for Mac or Windows is the documented alternative.^1^
