    Hi Earl Holland,

If you mean the YouTube “Summarize this video” button itself, there doesn’t appear to be a user-facing Edge setting that forces that specific button to appear. Its availability can vary as features are rolled out.

Please first check edge://settings/help to ensure Edge is up to date and restart the browser. If the button remains unavailable, you can report it through Edge > (...) > Help and feedback > Send feedback.

Please note that this is a user-to-user support forum. Moderators, contributors including external Microsoft employees cannot directly intervene in Microsoft product features or access back-end systems. Our role is limited to providing technical guidance on reported issues, requests, or ideas.

I hope this helps clarify the behavior.

Turn on Edge’s Copilot button and web-context permission, then open Copilot beside the YouTube video and select Create a Summary or enter “Summarize this video.”

    Restore video summarization

    1. In Edge, select … (Settings and more) → Settings → Appearance.
    2. Under Other appearance settings, open Copilot and sidebar → Copilot.
    3. Turn on Show Copilot button on the toolbar. You can also open Copilot with Ctrl+Shift+. ^1^
    4. Select … → Copilot and AI and turn on Allow Copilot to read context clues on the web. This permission is needed for Copilot to use the current video’s context. ^2^
    5. Sign in to Edge with a personal Microsoft account, open the YouTube video, and select the Copilot icon in the upper-right corner.
    6. Select Create a Summary, if offered, or type Summarize this video. Copilot in Edge continues to support summaries of videos, webpages, and PDFs. ^2^

The separate Summarize toggle that appears directly over a YouTube video is not a general setting available to every profile. Microsoft documents it as a controlled feature rollout for eligible Microsoft Edge for Business users; it also depends on organizational policy, user consent, and data-loss-prevention rules. Therefore, it may disappear even though summarization remains available through the Copilot sidebar. ^3^

If this is a work or school profile

The organization can disable access to page content and video transcripts. This applies to Microsoft Entra profiles using Copilot in the Edge side pane on Edge 130 or later. ^4^

To identify whether policy is controlling it:

    1. Enter edge://policy in Edge’s address bar.
    2. Look for EdgeEntraCopilotPageContext.
    3. If its value is disabled, contact the organization’s Edge administrator. The administrator must enable that policy; an end user cannot override a mandatory policy.
    4. Even with the policy enabled, Copilot cannot access pages protected by the organization’s data-loss-prevention policy. ^4^

For an unmanaged personal profile, use the Copilot sidebar method above; there is no documented switch that forces the YouTube hover-overlay rollout to appear.
