Error Running Microsoft Word

I downloaded the microsoft office suite on a new computer today and when I open it, I get an error reading "Something is preventing Word from running correctly." There is a "resolve" button, but nothing happens when I push it.

I also cannot log in to the online Microsoft apps. I do the login process, but I'm just redirected to the login page again.

Thanks,

Kristin

    Try these fixes in order:

    1. Restart the PC, sign back in to Windows, and try Word again.
    2. Run an Online Repair for Office.
      • In Windows 11: right-click Start > Installed apps.
      • In Windows 10: right-click Start > Apps and Features.
      • Select Microsoft Office or Microsoft 365 > Modify.
      • Choose Online Repair > Repair.
      • Follow the prompts to complete the repair.
Note: Quick Repair is faster, but Online Repair is the option that is intended to fully fix corrupted Office files.
    3. Update Office if Word opens at all.
      • Open an Office app.
      • Go to File > Account.
      • Under Product Information, select Update Options > Update Now.
      • If needed, select Enable Updates first.
    4. Check whether Word starts in Safe Mode.
      • Open Run.
      • Type winword /safe and press Enter.
      • If Word opens in Safe Mode, go to File > Options > Add-Ins.
      • In Manage, select the add-in type and choose Go.
      • Clear one add-in at a time, restart Word normally, and test again.
      • If Word does not open in Safe Mode, the issue is likely not caused by add-ins.
    5. Update Windows and device drivers.
      • Run Windows Update and install available updates.
      • If the problem continues, update drivers for the video card, printer, mouse, and keyboard from the device manufacturer.
    6. If the problem still continues, uninstall and reinstall Office using the Office uninstall troubleshooter.

For the sign-in loop with Microsoft apps, the supported steps in this context are to restart the device first and then repair Office. If the desktop apps are damaged, Online Repair is the main corrective step.
