No OTG adapter will display a Moto G Play (2024) on your Windows 11 PC; the phone has a USB-C USB 2.0 port but no documented wired video output, and this model is not supported by Phone Link’s Phone screen feature.^1^^2^
What will not work
- USB-C-to-HDMI adapter or dock: The phone’s specifications identify USB-C USB 2.0 but do not document DisplayPort Alt Mode or another wired video-output feature. An adapter cannot add video output that the phone does not provide.
- USB-C OTG adapter: OTG adapters connect accessories such as a mouse or keyboard; they do not send the phone’s picture to a PC.
- A regular USB cable: Windows does not treat the phone as a live video source. For photo or file access, Android ordinarily must be unlocked and placed in File Transfer/MTP mode. Microsoft states that a locked phone cannot be detected for photo import.^3^
- Setting up Phone Link now: Setup requires actions and permission approval on the phone. Full Phone screen mirroring also requires a specifically supported device; the Moto G Play (2024) is not on Microsoft’s supported list.^4^
Practical recovery options
- Check existing cloud backups from the PC.
Sign in to the Google or Microsoft account previously used on the phone and check whether photos were synchronized to Google Photos or OneDrive. Microsoft identifies cloud storage as an alternative when Android photos were uploaded automatically.^3^
- Check Phone Link only if it was paired before the screen failed.
Open Start → Phone Link. Previously granted access may still expose recent photos, messages, or notifications. This does not mean that full screen mirroring is available, and pairing cannot normally be completed now without approving prompts on the phone.
- Have the screen temporarily repaired or connected by a phone-repair/data-recovery shop.
With a completely black display, this is the dependable route to unlock the phone and authorize file transfer. After the screen works:
- Unlock the phone.
- Connect it with a USB-C data cable, not an OTG adapter.
- On the phone, select File Transfer/MTP for the USB connection.
- On Windows, open Photos → Import → connected device, or use File Explorer.^3^
Avoid factory-resetting the phone, because that would erase the local data being recovered.
