printing multiple docs at one time

I have tried multiple times to select 2 up to 15 docs at one time and there is not a print option, if i select more than one file (Word and pdf) . I have also tried to combine files into a pdf to print that way, to save time, but it freezes. Any suggestions? I am cleaning up files that need hard copies. Thanks in advance!

You should have the option to print more than one file at a time from the right click menu, if the print option disappears from the right click menu, that usually indicates different file types are selected.

Try to select more than one Word file in File Explorer and you should be able to print multiple files, then do the same for PDF files.

Print the Word documents and PDFs as separate batches of no more than 15 files, because File Explorer can show Print only when the selected file type’s associated application provides that command, and Windows hides it when more than 15 items are selected.

    1. In File Explorer, group or sort the folder by Type.
    2. Select 2–15 Word documents only.
    3. Right-click the selection and choose Print.
    4. Repeat with 2–15 PDF files only.

The right-click commands are supplied by each file type’s associated application; mixing Word and PDF files can therefore leave the selection without a usable common Print command. Windows also intentionally removes Open, Print, and Edit when more than 15 items are selected.^1^ ^2^

There is no need to continue trying to combine the files into one PDF.

If Print is absent for 2–15 files of the same type

Check whether Print appears when right-clicking just one file of that type.

If it does not, repair the file association:

    1. Select Start → Settings → Apps → Default apps.
    2. Search for .docx, select it, and assign Microsoft Word.
    3. Search for .pdf, select it, and assign the installed PDF reader.
    4. Close and reopen File Explorer, then test one file before testing a batch.

Windows lets defaults be assigned by file extension.^3^ The associated application must register a Print command; merely being able to open the file does not guarantee that batch printing is available.^2^

If Word files still lack Print, repair Office:

    1. Open Start → Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
    2. Select Microsoft 365 or Microsoft Office, then Modify.
    3. Run Quick Repair and test again.
    4. Use Online Repair only if Quick Repair does not restore the command.^4^

    If printing itself freezes

Use these steps only if print jobs—not the PDF-combination process—freeze:

    1. Go to Start → Settings → Devices → Printers & scanners.
    2. Select the printer and choose Open queue.
    3. Cancel any stuck jobs.
    4. Press Windows key + R, enter services.msc, and press Enter.
    5. Right-click Print Spooler and select Restart.^5^

Then submit smaller batches and wait for each batch to enter the queue before sending the next one.

Editing the registry to raise the 15-file limit is unnecessary for batches of 15 or fewer and would not correct a missing Print command caused by mixed file types or file associations.

Windows 10 support ended on October 14, 2025; the computer will continue working, but Microsoft no longer provides free security fixes or technical support for it.^5^
