Try these Windows 11 steps in order:
- Check the printer itself.
- Make sure it is powered on.
- Check for printer-side errors such as Offline, Out of paper, low ink, cover open, or a paper jam.
- If it is a USB printer, make sure the cable is firmly connected.
- If it is a Wi-Fi printer, make sure the PC and printer are on the same network.
- Run the Windows printer troubleshooter.
- In Windows 11, start the automated Printer troubleshooter in the Get Help app.
- It can automatically run diagnostics and attempt to fix common printer problems.
- Remove and reinstall the printer.
- Go to Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select the printer.
- Choose Remove.
- Then go back to Printers & scanners and select Add device or Refresh.
- If the printer appears, select Add device.
- If it does not appear, select Add manually.
- Update or reinstall the printer driver.
- Open Start > Device Manager.
- Expand Printers.
- Right-click the printer and select Update driver.
- If no update is available, select Uninstall device.
- Restart the PC so Windows can attempt to reinstall the driver automatically.
- Set the printer as the default printer.
- Go to Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select the printer and choose Set as default.
If this started after a recent Windows update, a driver mismatch can also cause printing failures. Reinstalling the printer and updating the driver is the most relevant next step.
