Lost access to Family Safety organizer after work account was created with same email

I originally created a personal Microsoft Account using my corporate email address.

Later my employer created a Microsoft 365 work account with the same email address.

I no longer have access to the personal Microsoft Account. Password reset and account recovery are not working.

However, my children still see that account as the Family Organizer in Microsoft Family Safety. The family group still exists, but the children cannot leave the family group and I cannot access the organizer account.

I can successfully sign in with a different personal Microsoft Account, but I need help recovering access to the original Family Safety organizer account or moving Family Safety ownership to another Microsoft Account.

This appears to be a conflict between a historical personal Microsoft Account (MSA) and a later Microsoft 365 work account using the same email address.

Unfortunately, I have been unable to reach a human support agent at Microsoft. Every attempt to contact Microsoft Support redirects me to automated troubleshooting guides and account recovery procedures that I have already tried and that do not address my situation.

    Hello

While it is not a good idea to use a work/school account to register a personal account, it shouldn't just take away your access though. It is more about causing product confusion not knowing which if it should use the personal or work account. So this is very unusual that you cannot sign in.

Can you try this for me please -

Launch your web browser in incognito mode, then use this particular URL

    https://account.live.com

Does it let you sign in?

If it does, you need to give your account a different alias and remove this company email address from your personal account, leave it strictly with your work account only.

Go to Your Info > Sign in preference, Add an alias.

    You have two options here:

Create new: this will allow you to use the native domain outlook.com to create a new alias.

Add existing: this will allow you to add a 3rd party email address, such as yahoo, gmail, as long as they are not already associated with another Microsoft account.

Once added, make this new alias your primary alias, then you can delete the other email as alias, and that email is free from this Microsoft account instantly.
