    Welcome Al Kar,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Q&A. I understand the touchscreen on your Surface Pro 4 has felt slow since the screen was replaced, and sometimes you have to hold or tap several times before it registers. I'm happy to help.

Note: Surface Pro 4 has reached the end of its driver and firmware updates. It's no longer supported, but you can still try these steps.

To narrow this down, could you tell me:

    • Who replaced the screen: a Microsoft service center, a repair shop, or you?
    • Is the slow response across the whole screen or only in certain areas?
    • Does the Surface Pen work normally, or is it slow too?
    • Which Windows version is installed (Windows 10 or Windows 11)?

    Meanwhile, please try these steps:

Step 1: Remove the protective film A shipping film left on the new panel can make touch less sensitive. Carefully peel it off and test again. Use a clean, dry finger for testing.

Step 2: Test touch in UEFI (firmware) This shows whether the problem comes from the hardware or from Windows.

    • Shut down the Surface.
    • Press and hold the "Volume up" button, then press and release the "Power" button.
    • Keep holding "Volume up" until the Surface logo or the UEFI screen appears.
    • Tap through the menus on the left with your finger.

If touch is also slow or misses taps here, the cause is most likely the new panel or its connector. Go straight to the last section below. If touch works normally in UEFI, continue to Step 3.

Step 3: Reinstall the touchscreen driver

    • Right-click Start and select Device Manager
    • Expand Human Interface Devices
    • Right-click Intel(R) Precise Touch Device, select Uninstall device, then Uninstall
    • Right-click HID-compliant touch screen, select Uninstall device, then Uninstall. If there are two entries, repeat for the second one.
    • From the Action menu, select Scan for hardware changes, then restart the Surface.

The touchscreen driver is automatically downloaded and installed when you connect to the internet.

    Looking forward to your update.
