Hi Claire Vokes,
This version avoids repeating the troubleshooting checklist and focuses on verifying the actual entitlement:
Thanks for clarifying that you are using a university-managed license. The key point is that having Microsoft 365 through your university does not necessarily mean that Microsoft 365 Copilot has been assigned to your account.
Please sign in to Microsoft 365, select your profile picture, and check View account > Subscriptions to see which products are assigned. If Microsoft 365 Copilot is not listed, the Copilot button cannot be enabled from within Word, Excel, or PowerPoint.
You may still have access to Copilot Chat through the Microsoft 365 Copilot app or the web, but integration inside the desktop apps requires the appropriate Copilot entitlement and must be enabled by the university administrator.
Since the account is managed by the University of Guelph, the best next step is to contact the university IT help desk and ask them to confirm whether your account has a Microsoft 365 Copilot license and whether Copilot has been enabled for your user group. Microsoft Community contributors cannot view or change licenses assigned by an organization.
Official guidance: How to find and enable the missing Copilot button in Microsoft 365 apps Thank you so much for your understanding.
