Sending multimedia content and documents within chat conversations in Microsoft Teams
Teams does not document a user or administrator setting that changes when the inline video player’s controls disappear, so request this interface change through Teams’ built-in feedback command.
Videos attached to chat messages automatically receive a preview and can play directly within the chat or channel ^1^. Uploading a video directly also stores it in OneDrive and places a playable video link in the conversation ^2^. Neither document provides an option to hide the scrubber or show controls only on hover.
Submit the design request
In the Teams desktop or web client:
- Select Settings and more (…).
- Select Feedback → Report a problem.
- Describe the request specifically, for example:
For short videos played inline in Teams chat, hide the playback controls after playback begins and show them again only when the pointer enters the video or the user clicks/taps it. Currently, the persistent scrubber and buttons obscure much of a small video.
- Attach the screenshot and include:
- Whether it happens in desktop, web, or both.
- The operating system and Teams version.
- The video format, such as
.mov. - That moving the pointer outside the player does not dismiss the controls.
- Whether this occurs for every video or only portrait/small videos.
This sends the report to the relevant Teams product team ^3^.
If Feedback is unavailable, an administrator may have disabled in-product feedback. Use the Microsoft Feedback portal instead: search for an existing Teams request and upvote it, or create a new one. Similar reports may be grouped to help establish their impact ^4^.
Because the video plays successfully and the concern is how its controls remain displayed, file this primarily as a design/feature suggestion. If controls cover the video only on one client but disappear normally in another, report it as a problem and identify the affected client and version.
