A free app and service that helps families create healthy digital habits and stay connected. It’s designed to support both online safety and real-world awareness by offering tools for screen time management, content filtering, and location sharing
A child account cannot leave a Microsoft Family Safety group by itself; a family organizer must remove the account, or they can unblock the apps while keeping the account in the family. ^1^
Leave the family group
Ask the adult who originally granted parental consent to:
- Sign in at
account.microsoft.com/familywith their organizer account. - Select the three-dot menu beside your account.
- Select Remove consent for this child’s account.
- Return to the family group.
- Open the three-dot menu again and select Remove from family group.
- Select Remove to confirm.
Only an organizer can remove family members, and only the adult who originally granted consent may be able to remove that consent. ^2^
Important: Removal also ends access to shared family benefits, including shared Microsoft 365 services and digital purchases. It does not delete your Microsoft account. ^1^
Keep the family group but enable your apps
If the main problem is disabled apps, an organizer can unblock individual apps instead:
- The organizer signs in at
account.microsoft.com. - Selects your family-member card.
- Selects the relevant platform, such as Windows.
- Opens Apps, features, and games.
- Selects the three-dot menu next to the blocked app.
- Selects Unblock app. ^3^
If non-Microsoft apps are blocked by parental-consent settings, the adult who originally granted consent must manage your access to third-party apps and select Enable access. Merely being another family organizer may not be sufficient. ^4^
If you are actually an adult
If Microsoft incorrectly treats your account as a child because its birth date is wrong, correct the account information using the procedure under “I’m an adult, but Microsoft thinks I’m a child.” After that, an organizer can remove you from the family group. ^5^
