Azure Confidential Ledger: how can a recovering client verify the latest application state?

I’m assessing a private Azure Confidential Ledger for a writing application. Encrypted backups would remain in Google Drive. The ledger’s proposed role is to prevent an older application restore from accepting outdated deletion or permission records.

The REST API documentation for Get Current Ledger Entry (2022-05-13) states that non-primary nodes may return older values. I have also reviewed the newer user defined endpoint documentation for API 2026-02-23 or later.

What supported read/routing mechanism lets a newly recovered client verify the authoritative latest application state, rather than an older valid entry or receipt? Can a custom user defined endpoint provide this guarantee, including when it executes on a backup node?

Please identify the applicable API version and documentation, and distinguish service guarantees from safeguards the application must implement.

This is just a design assessment before provisioning, no Azure deployment or reproducible runtime failure exists yet. This question concerns the standalone Azure Confidential Ledger service, not Azure SQL Database ledger. No matching tag was available, please retag or route it to the appropriate team.

I think the issue is freshness, not receipts. A valid receipt can still refer to an older entry. With API 2026-02-23+, UDFs run on the primary. Keep deletion and permission state in a ledger table, updated with each relevant write, and read it via POST /app/userDefinedFunctions/{functionId}:execute.

After restoring the Google Drive backup, reconcile it against that state before allowing access. UDEs can run on backup nodes and can't coexist with UDFs. If UDEs are needed, check primary routing with the Azure Confidential Ledger team before provisioning.
