A family of Microsoft word processing software products for creating web, email, and print documents.
Hello Sandeep,
As a forum moderator, I am not able to review your tenant or this user's account settings to diagnose and fix this for you. My role here is limited to providing general guidance and solutions for users to implement themselves. The dialog in your screenshot shows that Word for the web isn't failing to load the file. It's handing the file off to Word for desktop. This usually happens because of how the user's email links are set to open, not because of a problem with the account profile, so a backend reset is unlikely to be needed. To confirm this, select Continue here in the dialog. If the document then opens in Word for the web, you can change the user's link preference. In classic Outlook for Windows, follow these steps:
- Go to File > Options > Advanced.
- Under File and browser preferences, set Open Word, Excel and PowerPoint files using Browser instead of Desktop app.
- Restart Outlook and test the original email link again.
You can also open the file from the SharePoint or OneDrive library, select the three dots menu, and choose Open > Open in browser. If the file opens there, the issue is limited to how the email link is handled.
If Continue here also fails, check the affected user’s effective SharePoint permission:
- Go to the SharePoint site.
- Select Settings > Site permissions > Advanced permissions settings > Check Permissions.
- Enter the affected user.
- Confirm whether access comes directly, through a Microsoft 365 group, or through a sharing link.
- Remove and recreate the affected sharing permission only if the result differs from a working user.
If the issue continues after these changes, I recommend that the Global Admin in your organization create a service request with Microsoft Support. A technical support engineer can perform a remote session to investigate the situation, verify the backend configurations, and run any necessary synchronization tools to resolve the problem. If the issue requires further attention, they can escalate it to a specialized team for deeper analysis. I hope this helps. Looking forward to your reply.
