Disconnect all accessories, charge the Surface Laptop with its supplied power adapter for at least 15 minutes, and then hold the power button for about 20 seconds until the logo appears.^1^

If the screen remains completely blank

    1. Disconnect everything except power
      • Remove USB devices, external displays, memory cards, docks, and other accessories.
      • Connect the power supply that came with the laptop directly to a wall outlet.
    2. Charge it for at least 15 minutes
      • If it uses a Surface Connect charger, check its LED:
        • Solid white: Power is reaching the connector.
        • Off: Reseat it, try another wall outlet, and reverse the connector by 180 degrees.
        • Flashing: Disconnect it, inspect for debris or damage, wait at least 10 seconds, and reconnect it.^2^
    3. Force a restart
      • Keep the charger connected.
      • Press and hold Power for approximately 20 seconds.
      • Release it when the Microsoft or Windows logo appears.
    4. If the keyboard lights or another sign of power appears but the display stays blank
      • Press Windows logo key + Ctrl + Shift + B once. This attempts to wake/reset the display.^1^

    If it starts

Keep it connected to power and follow the on-screen Windows setup. You can sign in or create a Microsoft account, restore files from another PC, configure Windows Hello, enable Find my device, and install updates.^3^

    After reaching the desktop:

    1. Open the Surface app.
    2. Expand Help & support.
    3. Select Check for updates and install all available Windows, driver, and firmware updates.
    4. Restart when requested.

If there is still no response

If it remains completely unresponsive after charging and the 20-second power-button restart, Microsoft’s guidance is to arrange repair or replacement.^1^ Because it was just purchased, use the retailer’s exchange process if available or create a Microsoft warranty service order. Do not open or attempt hardware repairs on a new device.
