A Microsoft 365 Nonprofit Grant normally does not provide a product key; the administrator activates the grant, assigns a licence to each user, and users activate the applications by signing in with their organizational account.

    Activate and assign the grant

A Global Administrator or other authorized Microsoft 365 administrator should:

    1. Sign in to the Nonprofit Hub.
    2. Open the Microsoft 365 offers page.
    3. Select the approved grant and choose Buy Now—this is also the wording used for grant offers.
    4. Complete activation in the Microsoft 365 admin portal.
    5. Create users and assign the grant licences to them. ^1^

The administrator can review which subscriptions and services are available to each user. Microsoft 365 business licences are assigned to individual organizational accounts and may include desktop applications or only online services, depending on the plan. ^2^

Install and activate Microsoft 365 applications

After a licence containing the desktop applications has been assigned:

    1. Go to https://m365.cloud.microsoft/apps.
    2. Sign in using the licensed work or school account.
    3. Select Install apps → Microsoft 365 apps.
    4. Run the installer.
    5. Open Word or another Microsoft 365 application and sign in with the same account when prompted.

The sign-in activates Microsoft 365; no 25-character product key is required. If Install apps is absent, the account may not yet have an assigned licence or the grant plan may not include desktop applications. ^3^

If the request is for a Windows or perpetual Office key

A Microsoft 365 grant subscription should not be treated as a Windows product key or a perpetual Office licence. Product keys are available only when the organization separately holds an applicable Volume Licensing agreement or product.

If such a purchase or grant appears in your licensing records, a user with the VL Administrator or Product keys reader role can retrieve it from:

    1. Microsoft 365 admin center → Billing → Your products.
    2. Select Volume licensing.
    3. Select View downloads and keys.
    4. Choose the product and open its Keys tab.
    5. Copy the key or export the keys to CSV. ^4^

If there is no Volume licensing tab or no matching product, the organization has not been provisioned that key through the current agreement. For grant provisioning problems, the nonprofit documentation directs administrators to contact the Microsoft 365 support team. ^1^

    Hello sandy plant

If you are specifically looking for a product key, those are generally only available for certain Volume Licensing products and not for standard Microsoft 365 Nonprofit subscriptions.

If your organization has been granted a Microsoft 365 Nonprofit subscription, there is usually no 25-character product key to retrieve. Instead, the license is activated by assigning it to a user account in the Microsoft 365 admin center and signing in with that account.

Therefore, you can follow below guidance to do it:

    • Sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center.
    • Go to "Billing" > "Your products" and confirm that the nonprofit subscription is active.
    • Go to "Users" > "Active users".
    • Select the user, choose "Licenses and apps", and assign the nonprofit license.
    • The user can then sign in with their organizational account to install and activate the Microsoft 365 apps.
