Hello Microsoft Community,
We are facing an issue with removing the Microsoft.XboxGamingOverlay provisioned package from Windows 11 devices managed through Microsoft Intune.
We configured the removal through Intune, and the policy is being successfully delivered to the targeted Windows 11 device. The Intune configuration, assignment, targeting, and policy delivery have already been validated successfully.
However, after policy synchronization and device restart, Microsoft.XboxGamingOverlay still remains in the Windows provisioned-package inventory.
Troubleshooting already completed:
- Intune removal policy was successfully deployed.
- Policy status in Intune shows successful.
- Device synchronization and restart were performed.
- Custom OMA-URI testing was also performed.
- DISM package validation was performed.
- The remaining behavior was isolated specifically to Microsoft.XboxGamingOverlay.
Microsoft Intune Support advised that further investigation is required from the Windows Client / AppX package servicing / Windows Policy CSP side.
Previous Microsoft Support reference: 2610080030003562
We need assistance with the following:
- Why does Microsoft.XboxGamingOverlay remain provisioned even though the Intune removal policy is successfully applied?
- Is this package expected to be removable through the Remove Default Microsoft Store Packages policy on Windows 11?
- Is there any Windows/AppX limitation that prevents this specific package from being removed from the provisioned-package inventory?
- What is the recommended Microsoft-supported method to completely remove this package from existing and newly created user profiles?
- Are there any DISM, PowerShell, CSP, or other supported troubleshooting steps we should perform to identify why the removal is not taking effect?
Please help us identify the root cause and the supported solution for this behavior.Hello Microsoft Community,
