Contact Microsoft Support with the Officeworks receipt and product-key card, because Microsoft may replace a damaged or unreadable Microsoft 365 key or provide another activation option when valid proof of purchase is available.^1^
Contact support
- Open Microsoft’s customer-support page: ^2^
- Under Personal account, select Get help for Microsoft technical support.
- Enter: Unreadable Microsoft 365 Personal product key purchased from Officeworks.
- Choose Microsoft 365 and Office, then the activation/product-key category.
- Select the available chat or call option.
- Tell the representative that:
- Microsoft 365 Personal was purchased with the laptop.
- The printed key is unreadable because of the receipt/card print quality.
- You have valid proof of purchase.
- Have clear photographs or scans of the complete receipt, product-key card or packaging, and purchase date ready. Send them only through the private channel provided by Support—do not post the key or receipt publicly.
For telephone assistance in Australia, Microsoft’s support directory lists the toll-free numbers 1800 624 449 and 1800 197 960.^2^
It is also reasonable to ask Officeworks for a reprinted receipt or replacement card, particularly if Microsoft determines that the retailer must correct the purchase record.
After receiving a usable key
Redeem a new, unused key at microsoft365.com/setup, sign in with the Microsoft account that you want permanently associated with the subscription, and follow the prompts. Microsoft 365 keys contain 25 characters in this format:
XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
After redemption, that Microsoft account takes the place of the key for installation and activation, so retain the account details and use the same account when opening Word, Excel, or another Microsoft 365 application.^1^
If Microsoft 365 already appears under Services & subscriptions in your Microsoft account, the purchase has already been associated with that account; install or activate it by signing in rather than entering the key again.
