I have the message on my screens for awhile now that my Windows 11 Pro Insider Preview Evaluations Copy, Build 26300.8935 has expired and needs updated. I have now ran windows update 15 times in the last month or so and it always fails and restores back to the old version. How can I get this update to go through and work???

    Hello Troy,

The build 26300.8935 is a very old exp build dated back to July. Suggest you delete the self host key as mentioned above and dl the ISO of 26340.9843 from here:

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windowsinsiderpreviewiso

The reason you are not seeing any updates now is that you are missing the enablement package that takes this series to 26340 back in August. If you do not keep your builds updated on a weekly basis as the updates come out, you might be better off in the Release Preview Channel.

    Regards,

    Johnny

    Hi Troy,

If your Insider Program setting says

you are in the Experimental Channel

and you're on 26300.8935 then something

is wrong. There is no .8935 on Experimental.

Experimental is either 26340 or 28120.

The build you're on is a ReleasePreview/Release build.

I would delete this Registry Key and the Restart.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE|Microsoft\WindowsSelfHost

    Hi Troy,

Is your PC fully Windows 11 compatible?

    Please run: https://aka.ms/GetPCHealthCheckApp

Also have you tried doing an in place update using:

    Hi TROY SMITH,

Build 26300.8935 belongs to the Experimental channel, so first check Settings > Windows Update > Windows Insider Program and confirm that the PC is still enrolled in the corresponding channel. If Windows Insider settings show Release Preview instead, that mismatch may prevent the device from being offered a compatible upgrade.

Since the installation has already rolled back many times, I would avoid repeatedly running the same update. Disconnect nonessential USB devices, temporarily remove any third-party antivirus or system-tuning software, restart the PC, and try Windows Update once more.

If it rolls back again, please open Settings > Windows Update > Update history and share the exact update name and error code shown there. The error code is important because a rollback can be caused by several different driver or compatibility issues, and the appropriate fix depends on the specific code.

Please back up important files before making further upgrade or recovery attempts. A clean installation should be considered only if the PC cannot receive a compatible Insider build after the underlying rollback error has been identified. Thank you so much for your understanding.
