Connect each computer to the router’s Wi‑Fi network using the network name (SSID) and password printed on the router; if this is a newer GCI AK‑Fi Home router, finish its wireless setup and view those details in the AK‑Fi Home app.
Set up the GCI router’s Wi‑Fi
- Look on the router for a label containing Wi‑Fi Name, Network Name, or SSID, plus a Wi‑Fi Password.
- If you received instructions to use AK‑Fi Home:
- Keep the router in a central, elevated location, away from thick walls and large metal objects, for better coverage.
- For security, replace default administrator credentials and use WPA3, if both the router and computers support it; otherwise use WPA2.^3^
Connect each Windows computer
Windows 11
- Select the combined Network/Sound/Battery area at the right end of the taskbar.
- Next to Wi‑Fi, select Manage Wi‑Fi connections.
- Select the GCI network name and then Connect.
- Enter the Wi‑Fi password and select Next.
Windows 10
- Select the Network icon at the right end of the taskbar. If it is hidden, select the Up arrow.
- Select the GCI network name and then Connect.
- Enter the Wi‑Fi password and select Next.
- For a trusted home network, choose Yes if you want the computer discoverable by other devices.^4^
Repeat these steps on every computer that has a wireless network adapter.
If the GCI network does not appear
- Confirm the router has a Wi‑Fi/Wireless indicator light. If Wi‑Fi is not enabled and this is not an AK‑Fi model, use the setup instructions supplied for that exact GCI router or contact GCI support.^5^
- On the computer, open Device Manager → Network adapters and look for an adapter containing Wireless, Wi‑Fi, or WLAN. A desktop computer may require a USB or internal Wi‑Fi adapter.^3^
- If the network appears but will not connect, move closer to the router, re-enter the password carefully, and try the other frequency-band network if separate 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz names are displayed.^6^
