Hi CCarter,
My condolences for the loss of your spouse. Having to deal with an ongoing subscription charge during an already difficult time can understandably add further stress.
Since you do not have access to the Microsoft account, the most practical way to stop the recurring Xbox charge is to contact the bank or card issuer and ask them to revoke the recurring payment authorization associated with Microsoft/Xbox. The last four digits of the card, recent charge dates and amounts, and any documentation the bank requests may help them identify the payment.
You may also contact Xbox Support and select a billing or subscription-related option to ask whether they can assist with stopping the charge. However, please be aware that the last four digits of the card alone may not be sufficient for Microsoft to verify authority over or grant access to your spouse’s account.
Microsoft provides additional guidance for handling an account when the account holder has passed away here: Accessing Outlook.com, OneDrive and other Microsoft services when someone has died. The guidance confirms that if the account credentials are unavailable, recurring Microsoft subscriptions may be stopped by contacting the bank or card issuer.
I hope one of these options helps you have the charge stopped without placing any additional burden on you during this difficult period. Thank you so much for your understanding.
