How do I grant my husband access to view my calendar and for me to view his, but neither of us access the other's email?

    Hi @Debra Boelkes

In classic Outlook, you can share only your calendar without allowing access to your email.

Open Calendar, right-click your calendar under My Calendars, and select Sharing Permissions or Properties > Permissions. Add your husband’s email address and assign a view-only permission level, such as Free/Busy time, Limited details, or Full details.

Your husband can then follow the same steps in his Outlook to share his calendar with you. Avoid adding each other under Delegate Access, as that is not required for simply viewing a calendar.

Calendar permissions apply only to the selected calendar folder, so neither of you will be able to read the other person’s email.

Hope this helps. Please feel free to give me an update!

Share only the Calendar folder with each other using a view-only permission; do not grant delegate or mailbox access.

Share your calendar in classic Outlook

    On your computer:

    1. Open Outlook and select Calendar.
    2. On the Home tab, select Share Calendar, then choose your calendar.
    3. In Calendar Properties, select Add.
    4. Enter your husband’s email address, select OK, and select his name.
    5. Choose the appropriate view-only level:
      • Can view when I’m busy — availability only.
      • Can view titles and locations — availability, subjects, and locations.
      • Can view all details — complete appointment details, but no editing.
    6. Select OK.
    7. Your husband must open the sharing invitation and select Accept. Your calendar should then appear in his calendar list. ^1^

Repeat the same procedure in your husband’s Outlook, entering your email address. This creates reciprocal calendar access.

    Keep email inaccessible

Calendar sharing does not require access to the other person’s mailbox. Do not configure:

    • Delegate permission
    • Full Access mailbox permission
    • A shared mailbox
    • Account-password sharing

Edit and delegate permissions provide broader calendar-management capabilities; delegates can schedule and respond to meetings on the owner’s behalf. They are unnecessary for view-only access. ^2^

    If sharing is unavailable

If Share Calendar is greyed out on a business account, the organization’s administrator has applied a policy preventing calendar sharing. Contact the Microsoft 365 administrator and request permission to share calendars with the other address. Sharing may also be restricted when the recipient is outside your organization. ^1^

    To revoke access later:

    1. Select Calendar.
    2. Select Folder → Calendar Properties.
    3. Open Permissions.
    4. Select the person, choose Remove, and then select OK. Removal can take some time to synchronize. ^1^
