Subject: Dataverse File Storage Capacity Exceeded - 19.28 GB Usage with No Active Power Platform Workloads

Issue Description

We have received a Dataverse storage capacity alert stating that our tenant has exceeded available File storage capacity.

Tenant Details

  • Environment: nsif (default)
  • Environment Type: Default
  • Region: United Kingdom
  • Dataverse File Storage Used: 19.28 GB
  • Dataverse Database Storage Used: 0 MB
  • Dataverse Log Storage Used: 0 MB
  • Entitled Capacity: 0 MB displayed for all storage types. [Moderator note: Personally Identifiable Information removed]

Investigation Performed

We have reviewed the Power Platform Admin Centre and found:

  • Only a single default Dataverse environment exists. [Moderator note: Personally Identifiable Information removed]
  • No Power Pages sites are present.
  • No custom Power Apps appear to be in use.
  • Entity Usage reports show predominantly Microsoft system entities (such as solution, role, systemuser, organization and package_solution) rather than obvious business data tables.
  • Analytics indicate very limited activity and mostly system-generated operations.

Assistance Requested

Please help us identify:

  1. Which specific Dataverse tables, file columns, attachments, or components are consuming the 19.28 GB of File storage.
  2. Whether this storage is associated with:
    1. Historic trial deployments
    2. Microsoft system applications
    3. Orphaned data
    4. Dynamics 365 components
    5. Other Power Platform services
  3. Whether the data can be safely removed.
  4. Whether this is a licensing/capacity entitlement issue resulting from expired or removed Power Platform licensing.
  5. The recommended remediation steps to eliminate the capacity alert without purchasing additional storage if the data is no longer required.

We do not believe our organization actively uses Power Apps, Power Automate, Power Pages, or Dynamics 365, so we would appreciate guidance on identifying the underlying source of the storage consumption.

Thank you.

    Good day Rachel,

Thank you for the detailed information.

Since the Power Platform admin center doesn't show what is consuming the 19.28 GB of Dataverse File Storage and the tenant currently shows 0 MB of storage entitlement, I recommend creating a support ticket through Microsoft Support for further investigation.

A technical support engineer can perform a remote session to investigate the situation, verify the backend configurations, and run any necessary synchronization tools to resolve the problem. If the issue requires further attention, they can escalate it to a specialized team for deeper analysis.

To help you reach Microsoft Support as quickly as possible, please follow the steps below:

    • Sign in to the Power Platform admin center > Support > Get Support.
    • Enter "I need to create a support request" or "I need to talk to a Microsoft Support representative" a few times to reach the support request process more quickly.
    • Then the Support Agent will help you create a support request. Please select the options that best match your situation and provide a clear description of the issue, including any error messages, error codes and the troubleshooting steps you have already completed. You can also attach screenshots or screen recordings.

    • Additionally, sharing your preferred contact times may help the support team handle the case more efficiently.

Note: If you don't see the support option or don't have sufficient administrative permissions, please contact your Global Administrator for assistance. In case you do not know who is your Global admin, kindly refer to this article: How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin? - Microsoft Support

I wish I could help more directly, but as a fellow user in this community, providing these steps is the best support I can offer. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
