To make switching easy, first make sure both keyboard layouts are installed. The taskbar input language icon only appears when more than one keyboard layout is available.
For Windows 11:
- Use the input language icon in the system tray on the taskbar.
- Select it to see available keyboard layouts.
- Choose the English or Swedish layout.
- The icon changes to show the selected layout.
Keyboard shortcut:
- Press Windows key + Spacebar to cycle through installed keyboard layouts.
- Press Alt + Shift to switch between keyboard layouts using the language bar.
If the input language icon is not visible in Windows 11:
- Go to Start > Settings > Time & language > Typing.
- Select Advanced keyboard settings.
- Under Switching input methods, clear Use the desktop language bar when it's available.
- This re-enables the input language icon in the taskbar.
- Warning: this hides the legacy desktop language bar.
If English or Swedish is not available yet, add a keyboard layout.
For Windows 10:
- Go to Start > Settings > Time & language > Language.
- Under Preferred languages, select the current Windows display language and choose Options.
- Under Keyboards, select Add a keyboard.
- Choose the English or Swedish keyboard layout.
- After both are installed, use the taskbar input language icon or Windows key + Spacebar to switch.
If the language bar is preferred instead of the taskbar icon in Windows 10:
- Press the Windows logo key and type Control to open Control Panel.
- Go to Clock, Language, and Region > Change input methods.
- Select Advanced settings.
- Under Switching input methods, select Use the desktop language bar when it’s available.
- Select Options.
- On the Language Bar tab, choose Floating On Desktop or Docked in the taskbar.
