Set the Reorder Point on each van’s Product Inventory record; this is the editable minimum-stock threshold for that specific product-and-van warehouse combination.^1^
Update the required van stock quantity
- Open Dynamics 365 Field Service.
- Change to the Inventory area.
- Open Product Inventory.
- Find the row containing both:
- The required Product.
- The Warehouse representing the technician’s van.
- Open that Product Inventory record.
- Change Reorder Point to the required minimum quantity.
- Select Save.
- Repeat this for each product and van requiring a different minimum.
A technician truck is represented as a warehouse, and Field Service maintains inventory separately for each product in each warehouse. Associating that warehouse with the technician’s bookable resource also makes it the default warehouse for products used by that technician.^2^
The underlying Product Inventory column is:
- Display name: Reorder Point
- Logical name:
msdyn_reorderpoint - Type: decimal number (
Double) - Minimum value:
0 - Editable through create or update operations^1^
Reorder Point versus actual van stock
Changing Reorder Point changes the required/minimum threshold; it does not put additional items into the van or alter its current stock.
The Product Inventory record separately tracks:
- Quantity On Hand — physical quantity in the van, including allocated units.
- Quantity Available — stock that remains available.
- Quantity Allocated — stock committed to work orders.
- Quantity On Order — ordered but not yet received.
- Reorder Point — the replenishment threshold.^1^
To change the actual quantity, use an inventory adjustment to add or subtract stock, or an inventory transfer to move items from the main warehouse to the van. Field Service records those movements in inventory journals.^2^
If the field or record cannot be edited
- The user needs either the Field Service – Administrator role or the Inventory Purchase role added to their existing Field Service role.^2^
- Confirm the item’s Field Service Product Type is Inventory. Non-inventory products and services are not tracked in warehouse inventory.^3^
- If Product Inventory does not appear in navigation, check whether the Field Service integration with finance and operations is enabled. With that integration, Supply Chain Management becomes the inventory system of record, and Field Service hides Product Inventory, Transfers, and Adjustments. The minimum-stock setting must then be maintained in the inventory system of record rather than the standard Field Service Product Inventory record.^4^
