I mistakenly installed the Microsoft app on this computer (Windows 11 Home). How do I uninstall the app? I do not want to close my account.

    Hi Ronn,

Which app are you trying to uninstall? Please see if it's listed in Settings → Apps → Installed apps. Find the app you want to remove, select More > Uninstall.

Uninstall Microsoft 365 (Office) from Windows 11; this removes the Office applications from this computer without closing your Microsoft account or deleting documents you created.^1^

    Uninstall Microsoft 365

    1. Close Word, Excel, Outlook, and any other Office applications.
    2. Open Start → Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
    3. Find Microsoft 365 (Office).
    4. Select the three dots (…) → Uninstall.
    5. Confirm the removal and follow the prompts.
    6. Restart the computer when finished.

    Alternatively:

    1. Search for and open Control Panel.
    2. Select Programs → Programs and Features.
    3. Select Microsoft 365 and choose Uninstall.
    4. Follow the prompts.^1^

Microsoft 365 is normally installed as a suite, so individual bundled programs such as Word or Excel generally cannot be removed separately.

    If the normal uninstall fails

Use the Microsoft 365 uninstall troubleshooter available on the official uninstall page. Open it through Get Help, complete the prompts, and restart when requested. It supports Windows 10 and later.^1^

If this was a Microsoft Store installation and Settings cannot remove it, open Windows PowerShell as administrator and run:

    Get-AppxPackage -Name "Microsoft.Office.Desktop" |
        Remove-AppxPackage

    # No output from this command means it was removed:
    Get-AppxPackage -Name "Microsoft.Office.Desktop"

This PowerShell method is specifically for the Microsoft Store installation type, not the more common Click-to-Run installation.^1^

Uninstalling Microsoft 365 does not automatically uninstall separate applications such as OneDrive or Microsoft Teams. Remove those separately from Settings → Apps → Installed apps only if desired.
