Azure for Students verification issue – College email domain not registered

Hello Microsoft Azure Support Community,

I am a currently enrolled student at Rajalakshmi Engineering College, India. I am trying to activate the Azure for Students subscription.

However, when I enter my college email address, I receive the following message:

"Your email domain is not currently registered with us. You can choose another verification method."

The alternative verification message is not clickable, and I cannot find any option to upload documents such as my college ID card or bonafide certificate.

When I click Sign in, I am redirected to the Azure portal home page without activating the student subscription.

Could someone please guide me on how to verify my student status through an alternative method?

I would also like to know whether Microsoft can manually verify my academic status or register my college email domain for student verification.

Thank you for your assistance.

Open a free Subscription Management support request and ask Microsoft to review the Azure for Students verification failure; the documented Azure flow does not provide a student-ID upload method when an institution’s email domain is unrecognized.

    Submit the verification request

    1. Sign in to the Azure portal with the Microsoft account you intend to use.
    2. Open Help + support.
    3. Select Create a support request.
    4. Choose Subscription Management as the issue type. Azure provides subscription-management support without requiring a paid technical support plan.^1^
    5. Enter a title such as: Azure for Students – academic email domain not registered
    6. Include:
      • Institution: Rajalakshmi Engineering College
      • Country: India
      • Your academic email domain—avoid posting the complete address publicly
      • The exact error message
      • A screenshot showing the error and unavailable alternative-verification option
      • Confirmation that Sign in redirects to the portal without creating the subscription
      • Proof of current enrollment, such as a student ID or enrollment letter, only if the private support form requests or permits it

A matching Azure for Students case recommends this support-ticket route specifically for the same “email domain is not currently registered” error.^2^

    What Microsoft currently documents

Azure for Students requires applicants to be full-time students at qualifying higher-education institutions and to verify academic status through their institution’s email address.^3^ The public eligibility documentation does not describe a direct document-upload alternative for Azure for Students.

    Therefore:

    • Being redirected to the Azure portal means only that authentication succeeded; it does not show that the Azure for Students offer was activated.
    • Do not assume that support can manually approve the subscription. Ask for an academic verification/domain review, but approval depends on Microsoft’s review and the offer’s eligibility requirements.
    • Do not send identity or enrollment documents in this public Q&A thread.

    Request institution-level domain registration

Contact the college IT department or administration and provide the screenshot. Ask them to verify whether the college’s student email domain is registered through the relevant Microsoft education channel. Similar domain-registration cases indicate that institution-level onboarding should be handled by the institution’s authorized administrator rather than by an individual student.^4^

This is the appropriate long-term path if multiple students at the college receive the same message.

    Conditional community workaround

A matching accepted Q&A answer suggests applying for the GitHub Student Developer Pack, completing GitHub’s academic review, and then checking its benefits for an Azure activation option.^5^ This is community-supported guidance rather than the documented Azure eligibility flow, so use it only if the currently displayed GitHub benefits explicitly offer Azure activation after approval.
