Yesterday, and weeks before this, I have been 'attempting' to get my desktop wallpaper to stay the same. Each time with both CoPilot, GPT and an actual person yesterday, who took over the laptop and did the change him/her self. it didn't work I said I'd be back if it didn't. This is the number from yesterday 7111146578.

PLEASE HELP

OMG. It was too much for me understand tonight. I'm hoping what 'Let's Chat' did today 7111146578 was better than yesterday. And, what CoPilot and GPT did the previous 3-4 times. This new technology is just not my friend. It looked like most of want to had above I had done. There were a few items, forgot which ones now, you said I should delete which I didn't do yet.

But, I will keep this info on my desktop.

    Thanks so much,

    Jeanine

    Hello,

Please note that this is a peer-to-peer user community forum where users help each other. Unfortunately, we do not have access to Microsoft's support case numbers or the ability to view previous case history.

Regarding the desktop wallpaper keeping changing despite trying several options through AI and chat support, I just wanted to check if you have tried these steps already?

Go to Start > Settings > Personalization > Background > Personalize your background > Picture.

    User's image

(Make sure the picture is selected here.)

Then, select Browse photos and select the photo you want to set as your desktop Background.

Then, go back and select Themes.

Make sure your wallpaper appears in the preview.

    themes (1)

    Click Save.

This saves the current desktop background and theme settings as a custom theme.

    1

Go to Start > Settings > Accounts > Windows backup.

Turn off the 'Remember my preferences' toggle.

    User's image

    2

Go to Start > Settings > Apps > Installed Apps.

If you have any apps installed related to wallpaper, such as Wallpaper Engine, Bing Wallpaper, etc... select those apps and click Uninstall.

    3

    Next, empty the themes folder.

In File Explorer, select the View > Hidden items checkbox. then,

    Click Windows + R , type %localappdata%

Go to the Microsoft folder > Windows > Themes.

Delete all themes except the custom theme you saved.

If you are still having issues, let me know.

Set Personalize your background specifically to Picture—not Windows spotlight or Slideshow—and then select the image you want to remain fixed.

Stop Windows from rotating the wallpaper

    1. Right-click an empty area of the desktop and select Personalize.
    2. Select Background.
    3. Open Personalize your background and choose Picture.
    4. Select the required image under Recent images, or select Browse photos.
    5. Restart the laptop and check whether the same picture remains.

Windows spotlight deliberately changes the desktop image, while Slideshow cycles through a folder of pictures. Picture is the fixed-image setting.^1^

Since someone already changed the wallpaper but it did not remain set, continue with these new checks.

Remove other features that can change it

    1. Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
    2. Search for Bing Wallpaper.
    3. If it is installed and you do not want daily wallpaper changes, select its three-dot menu and choose Uninstall. Bing Wallpaper automatically replaces the desktop background with Bing’s image of the day.^2^

Then save the chosen picture as part of a theme:

    1. Open Settings → Personalization → Themes.
    2. Select a standard Windows theme.
    3. Return to Personalization → Background and select your picture again.
    4. Return to Themes, select Save, and give the theme a name.

Saving the customized theme may stop an active theme from reapplying a different background.^2^

Stop a synchronized preference from replacing it

If the picture changes after signing in or restarting:

    1. Open Settings → Accounts → Windows backup.
    2. Expand Remember my preferences.
    3. Turn off Personalization, or turn off Remember my preferences entirely.
    4. Set the desired picture again and restart.

Windows Backup can synchronize personalization settings—including wallpaper, color, and theme—between devices using the same Microsoft account.^3^

    Special cases

    • Multiple virtual desktops: Slideshow is not supported with multiple desktops. For a fixed picture, open Settings → Personalization → Background, right-click the image under Recent images, and select Set for all desktops.^1^
    • Personally managed Windows 11 Pro: If the wallpaper still reverts, press Windows+R, enter gpedit.msc, and examine User Configuration → Administrative Templates → Desktop → Desktop → Desktop Wallpaper. Set it to Not Configured if it is configured.^4^
    • Work- or school-managed computer: Do not change Group Policy yourself; the organization may intentionally enforce the wallpaper. Contact its IT administrator.

Also note exactly when the picture changes: after restart, sign-in, waking from sleep, switching virtual desktops, or after a regular time interval. That detail helps distinguish synchronization, themes, virtual desktops, and rotating-background features.

    Continue the previous support case
